Black or White

This week has been a heady one.  I have thought a lot about society and the world today and the 190th day of 2016 was no exception.  Because I woke up on 7/8/2016 knowing that the news would be filled with reaction to the Dallas ambush of members of the Dallas PD and the Dallas Rapid Transit Police force.  I went to bed devastated last night.  Saddened by the fear and violence that has gripped our country.  And, sadly, when I turn on the TV, look at Facebook, or read the paper, it does not seem anything is going to get better anytime soon.  But it MUST!  We need to do better, we need to teach and show our children that we can do better.  We must not be satisfied with a world where populations (be they racial minorities, be they police officers, be they LGBT, be they those who have less resources than othes) feel marginalized, targeted, disenfranchised, unsafe, and so on and so on. As my posts have focused on this week, we should be all working together to create a world where we value Love, Peace, Happiness, Gratitude over Hatred, Distrust, Violence, and Evil.  Because, in the words of Michael Jackson, "if you're thinkin' of being my brother, It don't matter if you're black or white."  And therein lies the rub for me.  For me, it's not Black OR White, it's Black AND White (and Brown and Tan and Purple and Rainbow and and and).  We need inclusivity and people who do not see the world in the duality of issues, but see the ranges of ideas, of colors, the "grey" area if you will. Two videos on YouTube speak to me on this issue.  One is Ash Beckham's TED talk on duality and Trevor Noah's commentary, on the Daily Show, stating that one can be Pro-Black Lives Matter AND Pro-Police.  Why must we choose between the two?  It's not the way I want to live, and, as I prepare to turn in for the night, I pray that we can do better, as a country, as a society, as a world.  More words from Michael's song of the day:

"It's a turf war on a global scale
I'd rather hear both sides of the tale
See, it's not about races
Just places
Faces
Where your blood comes from
Is were your space is
I've seen the bright get duller
I'm not going to spend my life being a color"
